I Know What You Did Last Summer & Last Night
Hi my name is Emily and I am a stalker.
Seriously, I believe I have the genetic make up to be one. For the past 8 years we have lived in an older neighborhood where the homes are almost within touching distance. Although we love our house and most (not all) of our neighbors, we are in the process of moving. We’ve really just begun with getting the touching finishes on our house to put it in the awful market.
This means we’ve had to decide exactly what we want in this next home. For me that was an easy list, because I don’t require much. An attached garage, a dishwasher and more than one bathroom. That would make happy. Throw in a few things like laundry on the first floor and a big bath tub and you’ve pretty well made my year.
I could be satisfied just about anywhere, but my husband has other dreams. He would like to be able to sit out in the backyard in his boxers and listen to his New Kids On The Block cassette tapes blaring without being judged. Just kidding. But he doesn’t want to live so close to the neighbors that they can hear me yell obscenities when he drives into our fence. That happened here once and my voice carried throughout the city. But you know, if he just watched where he was going this wouldn’t be an issue.
Really he just doesn’t like the whole block knowing what Santa brought Ethan by glancing at the boxes on trash day. I on the other hand love being able to to decipher other’s lives by a little window watching. I enjoy watching people. Some might call me nosy, but I prefer the word curious. It just seems much nicer.
So who will I stalk out in the middle of nowhere? Think of all the free time I’ll have. Thank goodness for blogs and the ability to stalk all of you. I’m going to call it cyber-stalking.
iffin’ I see your little eyeballs peeking up over my back fence, I will either invite you in for tea, or swat you with a flyswatter…
it really all depends on the day
I say make sure it’s a single floor - just in case you have ankle issues in the future.
Good luck with getting the house ready to put it on the market! We are planning on moving too but gosh, we’ve been planning on moving for years but never get around to doing it lol
I live out in the country…I keep an eye on the cows, the deer and the corn across the road. Quite entertaining!
Good luck on selling your home in this gosh awful market and luck as well on finding a home that makes you all happy. It’s a buyers market so hopefully the purchase you make will make up for any loss you take on the sale!! My mother in law just sold her home at at least a $50,000.00 loss. But she made a great deal on the newly purchased condo. Six of one, half dozen of the other as they say.
Though we are on an acre, it would still seem that we know everything about everybody around here and vice versa. It’s just the power of curiosity somehow trumps wide open spaces.
Good luck with the selling and buying of houses. My husband said his requirements were having enough yard that he needed a riding mower but close enough to civilization to have Chinese delivered. Yeah, we’ve got the Chinese but not so much on the yard!
Good luck! What a big undertaking, I am really not looking forward to going through that process again.
I totally understand the neighbour thing, I also love knowing that if I ever need anything I only have to walk a few feet to my super nice neighbour’s.
You sound so positive. Glad to read the better health in you post. I started reading The Secret again becasue I couldn’t bring my morale up..it’s helped a lot.
Good luck with your home sale, if the interest rates drop down a bit..it may make it easier for you to sell.
I’ll put your home on the prayer list…immediately. Keep getting stronger..good advise from one of your readers, try to get a one floor home or at least your master bedroom on the first floor.
My best,

remember to call gram
I am totally a stalker, too. I love, LOVE to look in people’s windows at night as I drive by their house. I like to see what they are doing and wonder about what they are watching on TV, what the room with the light on upstairs might be (bedroom? den? bathroom?). I also like to catch glimpses of house features that I might want in my future house.
You are definitely not alone! While I do not do it as much as I use too, checking out the neighbors, or the pulling out the binoculars and seeing what is going on (not really, I don’t own a pair … yet!)
I am also ‘curious’..teehee.
