T-Ball With Steven Seagal & Hang Man
We signed Ethan up for what we thought was t-ball. He is playing on a 5-6 year old team and it turned out to be a pitching machine league. So far he has done pretty well, but it makes me nervous to see a ball flying at him that fast. The parents on his team are going to provide quite a bit of entertainment for us. We’re only 2 practices into the season and I’ve already labeled a few of them.
See this guy? I call him “Hang Man.” See how he hangs on the fence constantly coaching his supposedly 6 year old son (who looks like he’s 8 o 9!) The man doesn’t stop talking and giving pointers and asking his son what he’s going to do if he gets the ball and… Seriously, I could care less how old his son is (who can’t throw, hit or catch), but either sign up to be a coach or sit down and shut up already!

And this guy looks like someone. Can you guess who?

Steven Seagal maybe?
i love hanging man. he’s a go-getter.
You’re in for an adventurous season I’m sure! I hate it when parents can’t just let their kids be kids and play for fun. Especially at this age!
Perhaps we ought to sit Hang Man down with a few Dan-centric episodes of One Tree Hill so he can understand the dangers of being too pushy with sports. I find that teen TV is a great source of education and training for life.
The entertainment of organized sports! All I’ve gotten so far is a couple of women who “dress” to come to soccer practice!
It’s such a fine line…available and supportive versus over bearing and just plain nuts. Nothing like a kids sporting event to make me feel all unsure of how to behave. Do I cheer enthusiastically or just sit sort of silent and brooding on the side lines. It’s a can’t win kind of situation.
And baseball and spring soccer starts here this week. Time for an ample dose of valium.
Emily,
Definitely understand; I am soccer mom this Spring Season, oh my. There are some parents that just won’t let the coaches coach. It is great to cheer them on, but how can they follow direction if on one side of the field you have the parents telling them were to go and what to do and on the other side the coach is coaching.
Poor kids get so confused! When I see a good play I cheer, otherwise I keep my mouth shut; unlike my husband who feels the need to tell our kids what they need to do next (thankfully though not too overbearing).
The horror of little league baseball! Save us!
Ugh…I talked Parker out of it for spring. Supposedly the fall league is more “relaxed”. Um, it’s T ball…it should all be relaxed! But it isn’t. Spring season is a den of vipers.
