The Woman Is Always Right
After 7 years of marriage my husband has yet to learn that I am right about most things. Even when I remind him of past events in which I let him be right and it turned out badly. Just this week I told him that Ethan’s baseball team would not be wearing their uniforms to practice. Nate disagreed and dressed him accordingly. Guess what? I was right.
Then, there was that time when the old man next door was acting funny. I kept telling Nate that he was loopy and semi-dangerous. He kept telling me I was paranoid. A week later the old man climbed over our back fence, came in our back door and when I approached him he tried to kiss me. Since he was wrong we built a 6 foot fence to divide the houses.
Over the past few weeks we’ve made some decisions on flooring and paint in our new home. For the most part we’ve agreed or compromised. There was that one time I had to remind him that putting hardwood floor in the laundry room would be stupid, because I’ve been known to have a washing machine overflow with water a time or two. He finally agreed on ceramic tile.
When it came to choosing paint colors for the walls we disagreed on the kitchen. My husband has good taste, I’ll give him that. Although I frequently must remind him that a black shirt and brown shoes do not match.
Nate is stuck in the mind-set of Carol Brady having a yellow kitchen. I’m much more modern. I like yellow, but if you look at the light living room wall it is the same color that runs down the side of the kitchen and hallway.

I think we need something contrast it. Let me show you four possible options. This wall will eventually have a chair rail and white wainscoting below that line to the floor.

So you tell me who is right here. I vote for the far right blue color. Nate votes for either yellow color. I know I’m right.
Just because I’m a crazy person who would paint every single wall, exterior, interior, and wear red every day person… I would have to keep the red… HOWEVER, I know you don’t want to keep it… soooo, with that… I’d say the blue with white wainscoting would look great… the yellows and white or greens and white… I don’t know, just doesn’t catch me. Blue and white though… make for some great decorating options! LOVE your house by the way, absolutely love it…
stick to your guns - NOT the yellows. I like your blue, or maybe even a more creamy blue. Is this the blue that’s in the master bedroom? I like that one.
If you HAD to go with yellow I would go with the darker one, but I do think the blue is best. I’m a bit confused by the comment about the “lighter wall in the living room running down next to the kitchen” does that mean that color is what the kitchen is? so you’re trying to complement it because the walls are near each other?
She may not be ‘right’ all the time, but she’s much more tenacious in such mattere, therefore I type this in a bright yellow kitchen. I’m solidly with you. Much more friendly and ‘less noisy’ color. Elegant.
My first thought before I even read the question was that I like the blue
I like the blue AND the pale yellow
Maybe paint the walls the blue color you like (because lets face it, the woman is ALWAYS right, even when she is wrong) and accent the room with some yellow.
I could go either way. We did varying shades of yellow on our main floor and it turned out well, its all about what fills up the space.
At my house I always get to be right, but that also means its always my fault.
I’ve been married for 23 years…I know the answer to every question. You are right.
Ooh, I DO like your color.
The BLUE. I had chosen dark chocolate and blue for our bedroom, but then it required too much money in reaccesorizing so I throttled back to green with brown accents. I will miss that blue. The color of it is so fresh. It makes me happy. Plus it’s very *hot* right now. You’ll be able to find loads of fabulous accessories and decor to go with it.
yellow, smellow.
The blue, as it is the decorator color today. It’s peaceful, easy on the eyes and has many great contrasting possibilities.
Good luck with hubby..mine is the same with his opinions and it sometimes is
very annoying…

Krista, to clarify for everyone - the light color you see in the first picture of the living room also is painted around the kitchen cabinets/bar and the wall that runs from the garage, through the kitchen and down the hall (to the side). Does that make more sense?
Perri, it is more blue than the one wall in our master bedroom. That wall is a grayish blue - but to me they look VERY similar. I like the bedroom color too!
[…] wonders never cease? I hate that saying. My blue color won out and there are now two lovely coats on the kitchen wall. Thanks for all the reassurance that I was […]
